NOUS42 KCHS 141838 PNSCHS GAZ114-151845- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Charleston SC 238 PM EDT Tue Apr 14 2026 To: Subscribers: -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network -NOAAPORT Other NWS Partners, Users, and Employees From: Blair Holloway, Hydro Program Manager WFO Charleston, SC Subject: Transitioning River Forecast Services from Flood-Only to Daily Issuance for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville, GA (REDG1) Effective April 28, 2026, the Southeast River Forecast Center (SERFC) will begin issuing forecasts for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville, GA (REDG1) on a daily basis. Previously, this location was designated as a flood-only forecast point, meaning the five- day forecast was only provided by the SERFC when river levels were expected to rise to near or above Minor Flood Stage. Following inquiries from partners and users, the SERFC will now provide a forecast daily and year-round. This transition provides several benefits. First, situational awareness is enhanced by providing valuable data during drought and low flow conditions and not just during flood events. Second, there is an enhancement of services for recreational interests and public safety along the river. Finally, consistency is improved by providing daily modeling of points situated between or above existing daily forecast locations to ensure a more seamless hydrologic profile across the area. The daily forecasts for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville will be available online via the National Water Prediction Service web page (water.noaa.gov).
