Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 115 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.04 miles Path Width /maximum/: 250 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: 04/13/2026 Start Time: 08:18 PM CDT Start Location: 2 W Hillsdale / Miami County / KS Start Lat/Lon: 38.6651 / -94.8929 End Date: 04/13/2026 End Time: 08:23 PM CDT End Location: 1 ENE Hillsdale / Miami County / KS End Lat/Lon: 38.6678 / -94.8369 Survey Summary: Shortly before 820 PM CDT on Monday April 13th, 2026, a supercell thunderstorm, that had previously resulted in an EF- 2 tornado in Ottawa, KS, strengthened and developed a second tornado just east of Hillsdale Lake in northern Miami County, Kansas. Initial damage was confined to the campground and park headquarters. The torando strengthend to an EF-1 as it followed W 255th St and crossed Harmony Rd. The Tornado continued east toward the town of Hillsdale, KS. After crossing Hospital Rd, the tornado strengthend to EF-2 with a peak wind estimated to be 115 mph as it impacted a single family home, before doing significant damage to several storage facilities just west of Old KC Rd. The tornado began to weaken as it crossed rural areas, before ending just short of US Hwy 169 north of 255th St. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ Kurtz/Pittman
