While the overnight should be fairly calm, an approaching area of low pressure will bring in gusty winds from the south with winds ramping up around 10 to 11 AM. An inversion will eventually break by early afternoon and give even stronger winds in the afternoon with gusts to 30 mph or more by the late afternoon in conjunction with minimum RH values near 25 percent giving near-critical fire weather conditions, if not critical conditions for a period of time. The location of this burn could be interesting as its situated in between the big lakes which could help to temper its humidity to not go as low as surrounding areas. The low passes on Thu night and a cold front will switch winds to the northwest on Friday and become quite gusty again Friday afternoon. Rain will eventually overspread the area on Friday night. .THURSDAY... Sky/weather.........Sunny (15-25 percent). Chance of pcpn......0 percent. Max temperature.....Around 71. Overall:Seasonable weather conditions expected through the weekend and start of next week around Sitka/Baranof Island as a pair of fronts push into the panhandle, one front arriving on Wednesday night followed by another Thursday night, stalling and keeping rain across the area through Saturday night. Forecast confidence moving further out, but currently expecting a brief break in conditions on Sunday with a ridge of high pressure moving over the area. Another front and associated precipitation arrive Monday afternoon and looking towards next week, an active weather pattern will continue through at least Wednesday as an upper level low pressure sends waves of weak fronts across the area. Aviation: Flight conditions on Sunday will improve through the early afternoon, any lingering precipitation and MVFR flight conditions from departing system will diminish becoming predominate VFR by Sunday afternoon as ridging moves across the area. This brief break will last through Sunday afternoon, before mid to upper level cloud cover increases through Sunday night into Monday as another weak front arrives by Monday afternoon. By Monday afternoon through Wednesday, expecting general MVFR flight conditions with periods of VFR. Overland winds should remain 10kts or less, increasing up 15 to 20kts with each passing front. No significant LLWS is expected at this time. .TODAY... Sky/weather.........Mostly Sunny becoming Partly Cloudy. Slight chance of rain showers in the evening. Chance of pcpn......20 percent. This will bring a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon. For the drone flight, the main concern is a "compressed" wind profile. While surface winds stay under 10 mph, transport winds just above the surface are nearly double that (16 mph). Expect bumps and light turbulence between the ground and 400 feet as these west winds increase with height. Visible clouds will increase this afternoon, but ceilings will stay well above the 400-foot flight deck. Smoke or dust will move quickly to the east. No rain or lightning is expected during the flight window. VFR conditions will continue through the evening before lower clouds arrive after dark. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/weather.........Sunny.
