...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1990, thunderstorms developed from West Texas to
Western Arkansas late in the afternoon and evening.
Baseball sized hail hammered parts of the Central Red
River in Silo Oklahoma and near Capps Corner Texas, which
is 80 miles northwest of Dallas.  In 1921, Silver Lake
Colorado, located around 25 miles northwest of Boulder,
was most definitely snowed under when a historic, and
obviously late season, winter storm overwhelmed the
resort with nearly 6.5 feet of snow.  This set a 24-hour
record for the United States.  Overall, 87 inches, 7.25
feet, were measured from this historic winter storm.

In 1994, a blizzard struck Hawaii; of course, not at sea
level.	The blizzard closed roads above 10,000 feet on
Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa for 2 days.

...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Between 1130 AM and noon EDT today, and normally every Wednesday, we
will conduct a test of the NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio Alarm
System. Those with alarm functionality on their radios are asked to
ensure that they are turned on, in order to confirm that the test
was received. Again, the alarm test will be conducted between 1130
AM and noon EDT today. The alarm test may be cancelled without
notice in the event of rapidly developing warning or watch
conditions, which require the Wakefield office to shift into a
higher alert mode.

...START TO THE GROWING SEASON WEST OF THE BLUE RIDGE...

Today, April 15th, officially marks the start of the growing
season for all areas west of the Blue Ridge. This includes
southeast West Virginia, and the mountains in Virginia and North
Carolina. Frost/Freeze products will now be issued for these areas
if the threat exists for any frost or below freezing conditions
through the remainder of spring.
