Storm intensity was 155 mph. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) continues to move northwest toward the Marianas, with the outer eye wall approaching Tinian and Saipan and rainbands continuing to move over Guam. Due to higher astronomical tides this week and pre-existing elevated seas, dangerous surf is expected or already occurring across north, east and south reefs in the Marianas as surf heights build to around 13 to 18 feet, and potentially spreading to west facing reefs once Sinlaku moves west of the islands in the next couple of days. The more northern trek of Sinlaku to Tinian and Saipan may limit the peak of coastal inundation but inundation of 1 to 3 ft is still expected as surf and wind driven waves increase as tropical storm force winds affect Guam; as such, a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect. For Rota, if the current forecast track holds, the risk for Typhoon force winds of 75 mph is reduced but not zero. For now the forecast has northerly tropical storm winds increasing to 60 to 70 mph with gusts to 85 mph this afternoon and then shifting to the northwest and west overnight, with typhoon force winds around 74 mph possible. Winds are then expected to decrease to 55 to 65 mph with gusts to 75 mph Wednesday morning as winds shift southwest and then decrease further Wednesday night, before dropping to 25 to 35 mph during the day Thursday. For Tinian and Saipan, the current track has Sinlaku over Tinian and Saipan late this evening and overnight. This could bring winds around 130 to 155 mph with gusts to 175 mph possible.
