The combination of south/southwesterly winds increasing to 25 to 35 mph, temperatures 15 to 30 degrees above normal and dry conditions will result in Very High Grassland Fire Danger for central and northeast South Dakota, along with portions of north central South Dakota and west central Minnesota. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the afternoon. We cant rule out some dry thunderstorm type activity in central South Dakota with deep mixing. May not even be thunder, however these could produce locally erratic winds. Main timeframe of concern is between 5 and 9 pm. We also cant rule out pockets of blowing dust due to the ongoing dry conditions and strong winds in central South Dakota. Winds will shift to the northwest and increase to 35 to 40 mph late in the day and through the late afternoon/evening behind a cold front, which will cause a shift in any ongoing fires track. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
