FNUS73 KLOT 081425 FWSLOT Spot Forecast for Pine Dunes FP Prescribed Burn...Lake County Forest Preserve National Weather Service Chicago IL 925 AM CDT Wed Apr 8 2026 Forecast is based on ignition time of 0900 CDT on April 08. If conditions become unrepresentative, contact the National Weather Service. Please contact our office at (815) 834-0666 if you have questions or concerns with this forecast. .DISCUSSION... A warm, dry, and breezy day is expected for the burn site. Temperatures will continue to warm towards the mid-60s this afternoon with cloud cover expected to gradually diminish through the afternoon. While dew points will be slowly increasing through the day, minimum RH values will still dip into the 30-35% range. Winds will start off out of the southeast around 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, but will become southerly (180-190 direction) by midday with gusts increasing upwards of 35 mph this afternoon. That said, if skies clear out quicker than forecast there is a chance that mixing heights could increase and result in locally higher gusts and lower RH values. Heading into tonight, a cold front will move through burn site between 11 PM and midnight and bring with it chances for showers and a couple of embedded thunderstorms. This cold front is expected to stall across northeast IL and northwest IN by Thursday morning. While it looks as if we will get a brief break in the rain Thursday morning, additional showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop Thursday evening and persist through the night. Rainfall with the showers/storms Thursday night could also be locally heavy with forecast rain amounts around 0.5 inches but could be locally higher (around 1 inch) under thunderstorms. .REST OF TODAY...
