SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. RISK...Limited. AREA...West Central and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...This Afternoon. DISCUSSION... Isolated thunderstorms could develop this afternoon across western Arkansas. If a storm develops, an unstable and strongly sheared environment would suggest good chances of it becoming severe, with very large hail and locally damaging winds the main threats. The threat should gradually wane after sunset this evening. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Local Spotter Activation May Be Needed. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday. FRIDAY...Severe Thunderstorm...High Wind...Heavy Rain Potential. SATURDAY...High Wind Potential. SUNDAY...No Hazards. MONDAY...High Wind Potential. TUESDAY...Thunderstorm Potential. WEDNESDAY...Thunderstorm Potential...High Wind Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Strong and gusty south winds are expected Friday ahead of a cold front. Thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of the front Friday afternoon, and some of these storms could impact portions of northeast Oklahoma, especially near the Kansas border. These storms will have a good chance of becoming severe, with very large hail, locally damaging wind and tornadoes all possible. A band of storms along the southeast-moving cold front are expected to impact the region Friday night, with the main threat transitioning to damaging wind. Pockets of locally heavy rainfall are possible as well. Gusty north winds are expected behind the cold front on Saturday. Winds turn back around to the south by Monday, and become gusty by afternoon across northeast Oklahoma. A weak upper disturbance will bring a chance for storms Tuesday and Wednesday. An organized severe weather event is not expected. weather.gov/tulsa contains additional information. $$
