FXUS65 KREV 170859 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 159 AM PDT Fri Apr 17 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Sub-freezing temperatures will pose impacts to agriculture and irrigation this morning. Sierra communities will return to below freezing Saturday morning. * Unsettled weather returns Sunday into early next week with renewed chances of gusty winds and showers. * The next opportunity for showers appears around midweek next week. && .DISCUSSION... A chilly start this morning across the majority of the region! After today, the western Nevada valleys will start to feel a bit warmer in the mornings, but the Sierra valleys will still feel a chill through Saturday morning. As a ridge advances toward the Pacific coast, light winds and warming temperatures will take the lead over the weekend. An upper low will set its sights on northeastern California and northwestern Nevada beginning Sunday. Gusty winds will return Sunday then showers may arrive by Monday. The main caveat with this system is the timing has adjusted further out, initially looking at arriving this evening, but now kicked further down the calendar. Should the current guidance come to fruition, showers arrive Monday. However, if this system timing gets moved another day, we could wait until Tuesday for showers to arrive. As of now, we see this system having potential to linger through the work week. However, recent model runs have struggled to capture timing with this series of spring systems. Stay tuned as we sort the details for the upcoming week. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions today with light winds and clear skies for all area terminals. Winds will increase late Saturday, with strong gusty winds arriving to the region for Sunday. && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...Freeze Warning until 8 AM PDT this morning NVZ001-003>005.
