FORECASTS FOR THE BAHAMAS FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6)
DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M.
EDT, Wednesday, April 15, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE
ISSUED AT 12:00 P.M. EDT.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A Near Gale Warning (28 – 33 knots) remains in
effect for the Central and Southeast Bahamas until early Thursday.

GENERAL SITUATION: High pressure ridging will continue to dominate
the weather conditions across most of the island chain today,
maintaining largely stable conditions alongside fresh to strong
breezes.
At the same time, low-level troughing associated with a mid- to
upper-level disturbance east of Southeastern Bahamas will increase
the likelihood of showers across that area later in the day, as this
troughing gradually shifts to the west.
Outlook: This trough is expected to gradually weaken as it continues
westward through Thursday, bringing only a slight uptick in showers
across the islands before ridging once again dominates by the
weekend. At the same time, wind will ease across the island chain,
becoming gentle to moderate in the north, and moderate to fresh
across the Central and Southeastern islands.
By late Monday into early Tuesday, a frontal boundary is anticipated
to enter the Northern Bahamas, increasing shower activity across that
area, with winds strengthening to fresh to strong in its wake.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Rip Currents and Rough Surf: A high risk of
dangerous, life-threatening rip currents and rough surf persists
along all Atlantic-exposed beaches and passages of the island chain.
Beachgoers and swimmers are strongly advised to remain out of the
water.
Coastal flooding: There is a moderate risk of water inundation along
all east-facing and Atlantic exposed shorelines across the island
chain. Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution while
traversing these areas, including the Glass Window Bridge on the
island of Eleuthera.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS
(INCLUDING GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI & ADJACENT WATERS):

becoming partly sunny this afternoon and mostly fair tonight.
