FNCA62 TJSJ 170723 RFDSJU PRZ014-027-172100- Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service San Juan PR 323 AM AST Tue Mar 17 2026 ...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN PUERTO RICO... Breezy conditions will prevail once again today across the area, with wind speeds ranging between 14 and 22 mph and gusts around 30 mph. Passing showers could move early this morning along the south coast of Puerto Rico, but drier air is expected to follow quickly and relative humidities are forecast to drop around 50% in general. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) in Cabo Rojo was 687 and 552 in Guanica, indicating critically dry fuels highly receptive to ignition and rapid fire spread. Therefore, elevated fire weather conditions are expected along the southern coastal plains of Puerto Rico today. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread of wildfires. Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning criteria. $$
